Food label: it is a clash between Italy and the European Union
What are the correct criteria when classifying foods? This question cannot be taken for granted, especially if we look at the open clash between Italy and the EU regarding the food nutrition label project. At the center of the discussion is the Nutriscore, the made in France nutrition label that is adopted by various European countries, with the aim of increasing consumer awareness of the foods consumed. What is the Nutriscore? When we buy a product and read the label, we find indicated nutritional values, calories per quantity of product and the daily requirement. We also find the ingredients and, in some cases, the indication of the origin of the raw materials. The Nutriscore is a labeling system that concerns food products, and is designed to simplify the identification of the nutritional values of any packaged food. How does the Nutriscore work? The Nutriscore provides for the use of two value scales: one chromatic - from green to red - and the other divided according to the first 5 letters of the alphabet, from A to E. Considering these elements, a score derived from the evaluation of seven parameters is calculated. In detail, a high content of fruits and vegetables, fiber and protein makes the product have a higher score. The lowest scores are reserved for food products with a high content of energy, sugar, saturated fatty acids and sodium. What are the limits of Nutriscore according to Italy? Why does Italy dislike this system? In reality, our representatives in the European Parliament are opposed to this labeling system because, while pointing out the intrinsic qualities of the product, it does not take into account the daily needs. This would cause serious damage for those products, such as Parmigiano Reggiano, which would risk being placed on a lower ranking than a jar of packaged pasta with sauce. This system would create a dangerous mental association in the consumer, according to which products marked as red are not healthy, while those marked with green are absolutely healthy. What is the Italian solution to the problem? Italy supports the Nutrinform Battery system for food labeling. The latter is a system designed to provide citizens with true information, that is, based on the daily needs of the substance and banning demonizations on individual nutritional elements. If the Nutriscore is supported by various distribution chains and multinationals in the food sector, Italy is supported by the food industry as a whole. The sector is united precisely because a labeling system that alarms, but does not educate or inform, cannot represent a correct way of approaching the problem. Nutritional values based on daily needs are the only parameter to keep in mind, in addition to making consumers aware of the correct dietary lifestyle and diets to follow. The Nutriscore, as it is structured, could instead compromise some cornerstones such as the Mediterranean diet, which for centuries has represented the food system recognized as one of the most balanced.

What are the Sustainable Development Goals?
"Global Compact" of the United Nations is a project that unites several people towards a single purpose: the promotion of a sustainable global economy. Global Pact offers for the first time the possibility of addressing the critical aspects of globalization in a perspective of international collaboration, which becomes a single community and seeks to find a reconciliation between the interests of individuals and those of peoples and the environment. It was first proposed in 1999 at the World Economic Forum in Davos by former United Nations Secretary Kofi Annan. So, starting from July 2000, the Global Compact has come to life involving so far more than 18,000 companies from 160 countries around the world, giving life to a new reality of collaboration. The present commitment signed between the participating companies and the United Nations is to overcome the limits of globalization, transforming the latter into a process characterized by sustainability and cooperation. United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for 2030: the benefits for companies for a sustainable future Economic development does not stop. However, it is necessary to change the approach to the world of work. Small and large companies, which have the task of investing in innovation by developing partnerships, are called to make a contribution to this responsibility. All this must be done through the search for the development of sustainable solutions at 360 °. The advantages that would derive from a change of approach are many, including: Identify new business opportunities Strengthen relations with stakeholders Stabilize the markets, thanks to the promotion of transparent and non-corrupt financial systems Identify, manage and monitor risks What are the goals of building a global community centered on solidarity and sustainability? The golas in the 2030 Agenda are more ambitious than ever and require the commitment of the governments of individual nations, of companies, but also of civil society, to be able to implement economic and social change in a sustainable key. There are 17 objectives through which it is possible to renew the world in all its complexity, namely: SDG 1 - End all forms of poverty in the world SDG 2 - End hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture SDG 3 - Ensuring health and well-being for all and for all ages SDG 4 - Provide quality, equitable and inclusive education, and learning opportunities for all SDG 5 - Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls SDG 6 - Ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation facilities for all SDG 7 - Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy systems for all SDG 8 - Encourage lasting, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all SDG 9 - Building a resilient infrastructure and promoting innovation and fair, responsible and sustainable industrialization SDG 10 - Reduce inequality within and between nations SDG 11 - Making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, long-lasting and sustainable SDG 12 - Ensuring sustainable production and consumption models SDG 13 - Promote actions, at all levels, to combat climate change SDG 14 - Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development SDG 15 - Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of the terrestrial ecosystem SDG 16 - Peace, justice and strong institutions SDG 17 - Strengthen the means of implementation and renew the global partnership for sustainable development The commitment of each individual is fundamental, but it is even more necessary that every business reality and every governing body work in synergy. Being able to achieve all 17 goals means implementing a real revolution that can change the destiny of man and the environment. As a company specializing in the production of cardboard packaging, Sada Group has adopted the principles of the circular and sustainable economy by adhering to the objectives of the Sustainable Development Goals.
